Sudden death, '84 245 200

Car was running fine, the only thing remotely resembling a problem was a tendency to pulsate at idle when cold. I drive to work, drive to lunch, go to leave, car starts, I back up, car stalls and won't start. Cranks and cranks but won't even cough. I got it towed back to work where I managed to do the most rudimentary tests at lunch today. It's got spark, fuel pumps appear to be operating, timing belt's intact as are hoses and wires (pending a more thorough inspection). Any hot tips on what makes an "84 245 go from being happy as a clam to dead in the water with no warning?
As always, any and all input is welcome.
Cheers!
