stuck throttle 200 1988

1988 245 DL AW70, 280K miles

Daughter has car at college, a day's drive from here.

Says she started car this morning, put it into Reverse and the car wanted to "run away" as engine raced. She actually hit the car behind her.

First thing that comes to mind is a sticking throttle cable. No symptoms before this that I know of; cable has not been replaced in 22 years.

Another option I don't dare bring up is that the wrong pedal was stepped on as she was backing in a tight spot.

Would a stuck throttle cabe cause this?

Thanks, Robert
