Rex-Regina Intermittent Ignition Problem 900 1992

I have been trying to solve an intermittent problem with my 1992 940 with Rex-Regina ignition over the past 3 months -- I've run out of ideas on what to try next so I come to the Brickboard for inspiration and help!

The symptom is that the tachometer begins to spike down about 200 rpm and the car begins to fire erratically (car will buck and surge if given power). If I take my foot off the accelerator, the tach still spikes down. Once the problem starts it will occur even at idle (the engine almost stalls). I believe it is an ignition problem due to the sudden spikes in the tach.

One interesting observation is that I do not see the problem when the ambient temperature is 20-35F, but above 50F the problem is frequent. This must be key to understanding the source of the problem.

I have another 940 (1994) with a Rex-Regina system so I've been able to swap parts, but still have not found the problem. There are no codes in the OBD.

What I've done so far:

Installed new spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap and rotor

Cleaned the two grounds on the fuel rail and the ground at the RS relay (next to the battery). Cleaned the base of coil/power stage for good ground connection.

Swapped following from good running car: coil/power stage, crank position sensor, RS relay, FP relay, MAP sensor

Checked MAP sensor tubing for leaks - none found

Cleaned the IAC and throttle body

I should add that I swapped this engine out of a good running 93' 240DL and everything ran well for 2 months before this problem started.
