I know, Oil changes, extreme conditions etc has bearing on this but is it a good general statement to say that the hushers gave up the ghost at 300K miles?

Semi related: With the Cam installed, do you really need a special tool (9995196) to get the Shims out or can you just rotate the Notch in that Carrier and push it down with something to get out and install the shims?
