Expensive headlamp alternatives? 900

I spend a few hundred every year on headlamps for our 960 and 940. I live in an area where there are lots of rocks thrown up by passing vehicles. At least one windsheild and two headlamps per year. Even the used headlamps I find cost me a hundred a pop. New ones from Volvo or FCP Groton are 290 to 230 a piece. Are the aftermarket plastic lens ones made in Estonia (advertised on Ebay) any good?
Is there a plastic protector that would help to protect the light?
