A/C bypass for 89 240?

I'm not sure I understand the question. What would be left to be accomplished if you just removed the ac belt? Has this been converted to 134a from R12? I did this conversion on a 1992 740. The 134 has a smaller molecular structure that allowed the refrigerant to leak through the hoses and o-rings. I ended up just charging the unit once a season and it worked fine. Good luck.
