Direct OD wiring to a J-type question 140-160

I've got my M41 (J type) converted to long shifter and my 4th gear switch is installed and ready to go.

I've done the research and am basically aware of the two types of wiring schemes I can follow to make my overdrive work. I am in possession of one of the original steering column OD switches.

I have a strong preference for a direct wire setup. Fused 12 V to OD light to switch to 4th gear switch to solenoid to ground. Simple, no relay to complicate things. I'm not concerned with forgetting to power off the OD circuit when down shifting. What I am concerned about is wear on my precious switch. In this configuration it will be handling the full circuit current, although original diagrams seem to indicate it was originally wired to do this from the factory.

Should I worry about wear and tear and use a relay or just do the direct wire setup?
