Idle fluctuates 200 1985

1985 Volvo 240 GL B230
Idle fluctuating, normal ~850 rpm up to ~2100 rpm. Just received and replaced the air mass sensor... apparently no change... was told by supplier to also replace the "air box thermostat"... I can't find the installed one... appears to possibly be the button looking devise in the air box in front of the filter, if I push down on that object a spring loaded 'flap' moves to change the air intake from direct (from front grill_ or through the pre-heated that comes from the exhaust manifold... How do I replace the air box thermostat? What other suggestions for my fluctuation idle situation? Thanks in advance must use the car to get to/from work all week... jm
