Today my son drove his 88 240 over a fairly deep puddle on a flooded roadway (maybe 6-8" deep). He said that he noticed the car was not accelerating smoothly after driving through the water, but it did not stall. He drove a mile or 2 to the mall and when he came out about 10 minutes later the car would not start. It sputters a bit for a second or two but will not run. The plug wires look dry, as does the distributor inside and out, and the coil. I also checked the 02 sensor wires to make sure that connection was not wet. It really looks dry under the hood, but it's raining so hard that we can't really keep the hood open long enough to do much investigation (such as pulling plugs and checking for spark). I thought I could smell fuel when he was attempting to start it when I had the hood up. Right now it's still sitting at the mall. It's supposed to rain for the next few days, so I doubt it's just going to dry out on it's own. We are going to try later tonight and if it does not start tomorrow, will unfortunately need to have it towed. Any ideas what might have gotten wet? As I said, everything under the hood appears dry, and the plug wires are only about a year old.
Thanks
Mike
