32 mpg with my 23 yr-old car, with A/T -- happy 700 1987

No, not a K&N filter. ;-) (Replacing the stock filter, FINALLY!, did help.)

I DID get 30-32 mpg (adjusting for 2% odometer error) on 3 tanks of gas, from TX to MN, with my 1987 745, automatic transmission, by:

1. Steady highway. Doh!

2. 40 psi tires.

3. 60 mph, which was hard to hold down to.

4. Well, you knew there must be something special, and I DID have a mild tailwind, which was blowing moist air from the Gulf of Mexico, to rain on Iowa and Minnesota. I was going the direction the snow geese were going. :-)

Sometime in the future I will try to hold to 60 mph without a tailwind, and see the results.

Just FWIW! I did lift my spirits.
