Altenator no start 200 1985

Have a 85 244 which ha been sitting a couple of years, had taken altanator out to use in a 89 245 for a temp fix until I replaced with new unit.
Reinstalled unit put battarie from old case tractor which wa origanaly in 85 244
and cranked very little juice to start, jumped started but no luck changed 25 amp fuse and fired up, removed jumper cables and car died tried without jumper cables but will not start.

Could this be due to ground on altanator worked on in a hurry might this ground off of altanator cause this no start .
Or is just a very weak battirie.
