1991 940 odometer repair 900

I posted a request on the Brickboard last December asking for advice on 900 series odometer repairs. I was directed to lots of very good information which I am now beginning to use to do the repair - thanks to everyone who contributed. I have a couple of supplementary questions which I would be obliged if anyone can help with - please! The speedo/odometer is the Yazaki type for the UK market.

Firstly : On the instructions from the Forum there is reference to "desoldering the two wires from the service switch". I can't locate these on the speedo head I have - could they be absent from a 940 base model?
Secondly : There is a step which states "note maximum speed needle position and remove it" I'm not sure exactly what this means and why the max speed position should be noted - any clarification please?

I would provide illustrations but don't think I can insert any images into this thread,

tahnks in anticipation of some wise words,

Owen from Scotland
