Low Friction Engine 200

I don't like the B230's and I've rebuilt many of them. The B21-23, not so many.
The B230 has a very tight piston to cylinder wall clearance in the hopes of stabilizing the very short skirt piston they used. Change the oil all you want, but overheat them once, and the pistons slap. Yes, it can be a benign noise, but I don't drive cars that sound like diesels. Weak rods, crank end play, noisy pistons. Big change from the earlier and far tougher engines.
Volvo said drive it like you hate it. Not a problem for any redblock until 1985. After that, a problem.
Some of the B230 turbo blocks were soft and developed huge cylinder wear - past .030 in a couple I rebuilt.
You can't just "ring" them - they need new pistons. Ringing the earlier engines is no problem.
