M41 D/J quesion 120-130 1965

I'm putting an M41 OD tranny in my 122, but ran into a snag...

The D-type I have supposedly came out of a running car, but I recently picked up a J-type. The shifter on the J has been snapped off about 1/2" from the base somehow by the previous owner. Would it be possible to swap the J-type OD unit onto the M41 that currently has the D-type? Should I attempt to swap the shifters and just use the whole M41 J? Or should I just go ahead and use the D-type? I definitely want to have a J-type in there even if not right now. Thanks in advance guys!
