This is frequently called "Scope Creep'. 120-130

And you are absolutely right. Unless you are headed to a place like Pebble Beach or Amelia Island, (not very likely to receive an invitation for a 120 series Volvo, IMHO) it is never economically worthwhile to instill that much love and energy into your pride and joy. But, if you love what you're doing on these neat old cars, and have all the ingredients for success, what the heck!
I threw in a second thumbs up for 122 and 940 and too many's hilarious example of "scope creep". (Oh, as long as I'm in here, I may as well just do this one little thing...it won't take too much time!)
Obviously, cars aren't the only things that can contract this popular ailment.
