960 Intermittent dead miss. 900

My '96 960 wagon has an intermittent miss that is similar to quickly turning the key off and on. This only happens when the throttle is shut or nearly shut. It happens at idle at a stop sign and when using minimum throttle to maintain speed on the flat and level. If the car is moving it "bucks"and continues to run. If I'm at a stoplight it dies and instantly restarts. Never happens while accelerating. When the car is right it is very right, quick starts, smooth idle and plenty of smooth power on acceleration.
After 5 or 6 of these episodes it will code: P0103, MAF current input high. Does this mean that the MAF is on the fritz of does it mean MAF is receiving bogus signals from one of the sensors?
Do I suspect the MAF of do I look elsewhere? Power stages? Throttle position sensors?

All thoughts will be appreciated. Brent
