Review of aftermarket clear headlight lenses 200 1991

Been a decade since we put aftermarket lenses in the '87 245, and I never really drove that car so I just noticed that they looked much better from the outside.

Last weekend I pulled the original lenses off the housings of the '91 245 and installed fresh lenses from Lamps & Lenses.

First thing I noticed was that the new lenses had no reflective panel in the bottom, so I took a knife and carefully removed the reflectors from the old lenses and glued them into the replacements.

I used DAP bathroom sealant to attach the new lenses. It has been raining since Sunday and they appear to be water tight. I had been using Pit Crew's choice to reseal the original lenses and the leaks kept coming back.

From the outside, they look great, just like new headlights. From the inside, the light from my silverstar bulbs is definitely whiter and brighter than it was with the 20-year-old lenses.

BUT - the light pattern of the low beams is annoyingly splotchy and irregular. I will get used to it, but it is not good. The pattern of the high beams seems just fine, and it is definitely throwing out more light on high beam.

Based on my experience with the same lenses in the '87, these will yellow faster than original lenses, but should be fine for 6-8 years, which is longer than I want to keep this 300k mile car.

Bottom line - would I buy another set? Yes, because I am too cheap to buy Euros or new OEM housings.
