Catastrophic electrical meltdown 900 1994

What a wild ride last night! Hop in my 940 for a 1-hour highway ride home. No headlights. Parking lights are fine. Drove the entire distance pulling back on the hi-beam stalk.

Then, half-way home, all the dash warning lights except Seat Belts and SRS come on. And stay on the entire trip.

Now I've got only about 20 minutes to go and I swear my eyes are giving out. The dash lights are looking dimmer.

Only five more minutes but it's obvious I have almost no lighting at all. Took the next exit for fear my 940 would die on the highway. Now I'm driving on city streets with no headlights and my emergency flashers on.

Two blocks to go and the engine's coughing and sputtering. I say a quick prayer. By the time I make it to my driveway the entire car is shuttering, but I'm safely home. Whew!

I checked the battery. 11.24 volts and the alternator is not charging.

I checked the Brickboard archives. Looks like the headlight relay is a good place to start. Am I right?

Th warning lights? I resoldered all the connections 6 weeks ago because the alternator wasn't charging. This is the second time I've had to do this in the last year. Dare I do it a third time?

And are the two somehow related or is it mere coincidence that the headlights went off and the warning lights went on?

Thanks everyone!
