smokingtranny! 900 1996

When smoke comes from the transmission area and the tranny fails to engage in ANY gear should i be concerned ?!?! ;)

i live in the mountains and since i brought this rig home i have experienced the series of flashing lights: the instrument panel arrow flashes, the lights alternate between "E" and "W" on trans selector, after a drive uphill for apprx 6 miles w/ apprx Elev gain of 1000'.

I had the pnp switch replaced by a real tranny guy, and he claimed all looked great.problem w/blinky lights after uphill climb continued.

i ignored it. assuming it was a glitchy little nothing....

TODAY it died in my driveway and wouldn't engage in any gear!! SMOKE!! bad smellls...but after it cooled off i was able to bring it up to the house.

Any advice? i am seriously considering dumping it - b-4 i kill it...unless i already did.
