The numbers they give in this 04-2010 catalogue is Front B46-0283, Rear B46-0293.
These numbers for sedan, kombi and 1800. looks like your number, which could well be an early number, would match in properly with the new series if you use the last 3 numbers "294". That would make a modern number of B46-0294 for Estate rears only. If you do get to make out a definitive number please post it.

I don't know how long Cynthia had the car. Could she have put them on that long ago?

Do you have a steam cleaner/power wash down at the local truck stop? They might be able to give it a quick blast.
