Overdrive wiring extension? 200 1986

Howdy,
So the overdrive wires that run up the shifter to my knob appear to be a bit on the short side (that or something is catching them up somewhere deeper inside the shifter), I'm wondering if anyone has added 1/2" to the wiring here so that it doesn't keep coming loose from the button at the top? I have a feeling that as I switch from second to third there is so much movement in the shifter that it tugs the wiring the slightest bit to wiggle it free from an already loose connection with the button.

Thanks,

Zac from Philadelphia
