Defective rear calipers or what? 200 1984

My 3yr rear ATE calipers both developed a condition where the outside pad has worn through prematurely leaving the inside about 70%. I have noticed a drop in mileage and a heavyness to the pedal as if the car wasn't rolling freely. Truth be told, I haven't checked the pads in a while and can't say I noticed the uneven wear when I did. This condition developed over this past year.

The left side started to squeal late last year and by the time I did anything about it the rotor was scored and would have needed to be replaced. Since it was winter, I decided to just replace the pad and redo both sides this spring. Now the right side has started to squeal in pretty much the same way and I can hear a subtle scoring going on there as well. After inspecting...same problem.

I already anticipated changing out the rotor and pads but am now faced with replacing the calipers as well. They were purchased from FCP about 3yrs ago. I have a local supplier that carries the exact same ReTech calipers that FCP supplies but wonder if the calipers are defective in some way? Hard to fathom both being bad however. My long standing practice is to grease down the hardware and backing shims with silicone paste and it never was an issue in the past. I also coated these calipers with POR-15 to help keep them looking decent but was careful around the pistons. The lines were bled with new fluid.

Have seen this before but only on one side and the piston seemed to be siezed completely. What other factors are at work here that I'm not seeing? Will consider getting VOLVO remans if need be. 3yrs is not enough for caliper life. Thanks in advance for your input...
