How much fuel? 700

Say, I've been having trouble starting my 740 for quite some time now, and I'm pretty sure it's fuel related.

Anyway, I have the rex/regina so there's only one fuel pump. I understand this fuel injection should be under some considerable pressure, no?

Anyway, when I remove the fuel pressure regulator, there is no violent release of pressure like I expected, and when I hooked up a little hose to the fuel rail and run the pump manually (via jumped fuse) fuel does come out, but not as fast as I had expected.

Shouldn't it be coming out very fast or at least have some pressure built up when took the regulator off?

I've replaced the main fuel filter (under the car) but not the little sock filter that's actually on the pump itself.
