Please help me with a long distance diagnosis of an oil leak 200

My son is in college 150 miles away. His '83 240 has developed a significant oil leak. I'm going to travel down there later this week, so I'm trying to gather tools, parts, and formulate a plan.

The oil is first visible just in front of the exhaust manifold for the #1 cylinder, but is coming from above.

Here's a link to a video of the leak: http://cid-40641e35be85ab83.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/oilleak.m4v (note: it appears that you have to download the video, which is 30Mb. It doesn't seem to be viewable online, so this may not be much help).

The file uploader isn't working, so I can't upload the still shots.

He noted that his valve cover bolts were loose, and that a couple would not tighten. Is this the most likely culprit? Are these bolts that thread into the head, or studs in the head that tighten with nuts?
