New Brake Pads 120-130

I just installed some new brake pads I bought from IPD... they're a new green eco-friendly variety.

For the age of my 64'-122, I'm rather surprised at the remaining thickness of my old rotors.... looks like only about 1/8th of an inch of wear-in on them!? So... anyway... when I poshed back the girling pistons to insert the new pads, I found that there was barely enough clearance to even get them in. Now that they're in, they also touch the rotors, even after pumping the pedal a bit and driving it around the block. It's just kind of a soft rub.. they turn... but I'm wondering if I've done something wrong here? Should I expect there to be a little period of wear-in such that the pads get worn off enough to make clearance after a little bit of driving, then all's good again?

Can anybody explain this mystery to me?

Thanks.
