Need Help Removing Rear Flange from a M40 to Install New Gaskets 140-160

It's a bit late to say that the tools should suit the job. Get some 1/2" inch kit. 3/8" OK up to about 40ft/lbs max. Never use a ratchet to "break loose" a fully tightened nut/bolt. Ratchets are for convenience, getting the nut up to and from the snugged position, especially where access is difficult. Final torque with a wrench or fixed socket.
However, I'm guilty sometimes, aren't we all! I started with a 1/2" socket set and very rarely find the need to use 3/8", but it seems to be normal now with modern engines/cars to use 3/8" and then switch to 1/2" for heavier duty stuff.
