240 vs V70

I may upgrade to a newer Volvo but have been cautioned against the newer models (post 240) except for the V70. I won't be able to take out a loan so I am looking at an early model V70 wagon (not cross-country)with over 100,000 miles as that will get it into my price range.

Any opinions on how the V70 compares to the 240 in terms of reliability, maintenance, cost of repairs? I know the ride itself will be much improved.
