rythmic surging idle 900

My idle has been loping for some time now. I have checked all the vacuum lines, checked corrugated tube from airbox to TB. Cleaned TB, and replaced gasket, cleaned IAC. checked but didnt repalce intake manifold gasket. Not sure what else to check.

One thing I have noticed: When I remove the 1" tube from the airbox, there is a rythmic gasping sound from the tube. I can get the idle to smooth out by metering the tube opening with my thumb. Could the iac been going bad??

Cap, rotor, plugs, air filter are relatively new.

Thanks,
Matt
