1992 Volvo 240 fuel filter/fuel line issues 200

1992 Volvo 240

Here's what I've noticed. The car wants to start up and then almost does then just dies out, but when I pop the hood it smells like gas in the engine. I can hear the fuel pump prime when I try and start the car but won't turn over. A co-worker informed me that if may be a loose fuel line of possible fuel filter issue. Can someone please tell me where the fuel filter is located and how I could go about checking for a loose fuel line under the hood?

Thanks so much...
