floor board wire way cover 200 1989

I have a question, I removed the carpet and drivers side front seat to repair s rust hole in the floor and run some speaker cable also. In the floor on the drivers side front there is a sheet metal cover you remove and there is the wire cables that run to the back of the car. The sheet metal cover is bent like an "L". Does any one know which way this sheet metal cover is suppose to go back?? Is the bent lip suppose to go towards the door or towards the gas pedal? any help would be appreciated.
