Someone gave me an 86 244DL with a blown head gasket. It also had electrical problems. I fixed the head gasket and replaced the engine wiring harness which had many bare wires touching. I am now trying to fix the remaining electrical problems. Someone installed a switch in place of the sixth fuse from the top. When the switch is flipped the headlights will work. From what I understand the 6th fuse should be the fuel pump. The car runs fine with the switch off. The flashers no longer work, so I replaced the flasher relay and that did not fix it. I tore apart the bulb out sensor and it had some really bad burns on one of the copper coils. I will replace it soon. The headlights only work now on high beams. When I got the car only the brake lights worked in the back, but I'm now trying to fix and replace all rear lights (the right rear light circuit board was badly burned on one of the bulbs). I tore apart the dash to check the grounds and they all seem OK. I'm sorry for the long and probably confusing post but I guess what I'm asking first is how do I put the fuse wiring back to normal? What should go where on #6? Also, is there a way I can test the headlight step relay and the headlight relay under the pedal before I buy new ones? Also, when I turn on the headlights (rotate the regular headlight switch all the way to the right) the dash lights go out.
Thanks a bunch.
