1992/740/220K-WeakBrakeBooster? 700

I recently bled the brakes on my 1992 740. I think they are basically OK, I don't notice any leaking anywhere, the pedal is nice and firm. However, it takes more effort than I'd like to bring the car to a halt. So I suspect the brake booster may need some attention. The hose from the booster drum to the intake manifold looks a bit cracked/heat tortured and could probably do with replacing.
3 questions:
1) Is replacing the brake booster check valve and hose (they are cheap enough at IPD) likely to improve this situation?
2) Is this a simple job?
3) How is it done? Do you just prise out the white check valve carefully and work the hose off the intake manifold?

Thanks,

Rob
