Rant - my car was broken into - any advice on improving car impenetrability ? 200 1993

My poor baby was broken into last night. I have been faced with a tradeoff - when cars get broken into in my neighborhood, the bugler usually smashes the glass, and then grabs what they want. In order to keep my windows, I have left my car unlocked, and parked up my driveway right next to the house, and don't keep many valuables in sight.

Last night a burglar broke in and grabbed everything that seemed valuable to them. They were fools, since they did not find the stash of valuable stuff I keep in the hidey holes in the rear of the wagon. So, I kept my tools, my emergency breakdown stuff, etc.

Sadly, they also slashed up the carpet trying to figure out how to steal my dvd player. This is really funny, because it only takes loosening two really visible and obvious screws to remove the thing, but apparently there were not mechanically inclined. Also, the DVD player doesn't work as is, because I disabled it due to hiss/static on my stereo. So, they ruined my carpets to steal something that would have been worthless to them.

Anyway, I thing a car alarm is in order. To be cheap and sneaky, I was thinking or attaching an airhorn to the "door open" chime. So, I turn switch to have an open door either chime normally, or deafen the burglar.

Where does that little chime live? I see the little buttons on the door frame that actuate the chime, but I'd rather not chase the wires blindly, since this usually leads to multiple dead ends, and excess disassembly.

Any ideas or suggestions would be very welcome. Including crazy ideas, like attaching tazers to the door handles.

PS - being burgled really sucks - the loss of stuff is minor, but the feeling of being violated is horrible.
