89 740 GLE electrical drain 700 1989

Check the batery voltage with a meter at rest and when running. A charged battery should be a bit over 12V and when running alternator should be charging it at just over 14V. Report back.

Your decription sounds incomplete but is would seem it was not charging while being driven and of course this runs the battery down causing the electrical funnies and a dead battery. With no alternator output and a dead battery car will not run eben after a boost to start. How did you have the battery and alt tested if car not running, did you take them out?
