Trans cooling lines; does it really matter which one goes where on the radiator??

I have replaced several sets of transmission cooling lines on 2/7/900 series Volvos. I buy the 5/16" steel lines and bend them up using the old lines as a pattern after installing the original fittings on the new lines.

60" is the longest line I can purchase and one of the lines is longer than that. So the longest line on the car involves buying a 12" piece and adding it to one of the 60" pieces.

The last time I made up a set of cooling lines I realized that if I swapped the lines at their attachment points on the radiator two 60" lines would have worked.

The drawback would have been that the lower fitting would have been the one that I would need to slip my hose onto when I did a transmission flush- not a big deal on the 240's but access on the 940T cars would have been restricted.

The setup is such that the hot fluid is pumped into the bottom of the radiator cooler and exits at the top. Was the original engineering plan simply an arbitrary decision or was there a good reason to arrange the lines the way they did?? I am guessing it would not make a difference one way or the other. What do you think?
