Taillight questions 200 1993

OK, So I finally got a '93 240 for fairly cheap off of craigslist. It's got a few issues that i'm working through, but I'm stumped on one right now. When I got the car the drivers side taillights didn't work; I went through the simple things changed lamps lightly sanded contacts changed fuses. Then i discovered that whenever I turned the headlights on i was blowing the fuse so I tested different combinations of lamps plugged in to figure out what was blowing the fuse and discovered that if i disconnected the passenger side license plate light (I unplugged the whole thing, not just the lamp)the fuse stopped blowing...I thought I had solved the problem then realized that I had blown the passenger side taillight somewhere in the process. I changed that lamp and discovered that neither of the passenger side taillights work. The brake light does work though. but when i have the lights on only the drivers side works...does anyone know if the passenger side lights need to have the license plate light plugged in? I plan on going to the pick and pull this weekend to get license plate lights is there something else i should be looking at? it is a sedan by the way. And thanks in advance for the help.
