Broken Seatbelt Latch... HELP! 900 1994

I have a strange problem. My seatbelt will not unhook itself from the buckle. It is currently fully buckled and the red button you push to unlatch it is broken off, (the spring fell out and the red plastic push button is cracked and broken. I can push down the black rectangular piece you see in the pic below, but it does not release the belt.

This is on the drivers side front seat so its a real nuisance. (Don't bother to ask how I got out of the seat with it still buckled)!

There is at least 1 wire connected to the base of the buckle and I don't know what it is for or where it goes.

I'm afraid about the airbags deploying if I try to force anything. Not sure where to begin with this one... I am somewhat of a DIY-er with this car and I'd like not to take it to a dealer. HELP!

Thanks,

Alex
