weber vs SU 120-130

If your still indecisive I'll offer my experience. For one I'm sure the average person on this board would pick the S.U.'s over the webers since they were quite often fitted std. and if in reasonable condition on a std. engine in reasonable condition it's fairly straight forward (with proper working/tuning habits) to get a motor that will perform as originaly intended. I believe the weber at times gets a bad rap by some because there are few that are willing to put in the time and effort not to mention the dinero for a sufficient range of jets (idles, mains, air, and atomisers) to get them set up right, not to mention that after the umpteenth carb top removal it really seems to become a pain in ass. I will also say it seems that IPD and whoever else markets these kits could probably do a better job getting the jetting closer to what your typical 2.0 liter engine requires from my experience, not to mention I've noticed the typical delivered linkage never seems to open the carb fully or has some other issue causing frustration. You definately want to run coolant thru the manifold whether in southern ca. or Alaska, and expect to run much larger idle jets than what they are delivered with. When set up right they actually run pretty strong (I've since removed my s.u.'s after an extensive comparison in favor of the weber) but unfortunately fuel economy is not it's strong suit (65 idle jet on the primary side as well as a heavy right foot seem to be the culprit). Well I've rambled to long, not to mention my real recommendation would be a 38/38 downdraft but my typing skills has cost me the better part of an hour all ready so good luck with your decision.
