Fix one thing break another... 700 1990

+1 on the gasket! Soak with gasket remover, scrape, repeat. Watch the gasket remover, it's nasty stuff if it gets on your skin but will greatly reduce scraping time. Mine was glued to the transmission rather than the housing so this had to be done under the car.

Also, if you have excessive play do not to put off replacing the bushing. If it is left too long, the bushing will disenegrate and the case will be eat up by the driveshaft. Then you will have to buy a used tailshaft housing.
