81 240 wagon, fixit or scrapit? 200 1981

You might look for a second, then use the second for parts. A second should not be but a few hundred at most. Or, look in a junk yard for a second for parts. This should help with the major drive line pieces. According to your description, the rest may just be standard work expected for a 240 of that age. Then you can pursue your dreams.
