Hello everyone. I have a 1992 245 with 205,000 miles on the original automatic transmission. I live in Maine, and this past winter, the transmission started slipping. It would only do it when the engine wasn't completely warmed up. I chalked it up to cold weather and age. It's finally spring here and we've had some warmer weather, and every now and then I am still experiencing some wonky shifting. Again, it happens when the engine isn't up to temp. (Once it's up to temp, it runs beautifully!)
Tonight, however, the tranny slipped after I had to slam on my brakes to avoid an accident (my giant brick is apparently invisible to a-holes in SUVs). It was almost like it got stuck in neutral, because when I stepped on the gas after giving the other driver a death glare, the engine just revved for about a second and then clunked into gear.
Any advice on what I'm dealing with would be helpful. I have browsed through some of the other questions but I do not have a lot of time right now to do in-depth research.
Oh, I should add that this misbehavior started after I had the tranny flushed and all the small random problems (not related to the tranny) fixed. So no, it is not neglected!
I have an appointment in 2 weeks to get the entire car painted, and if I am looking at possibly having to rebuild a transmission, I might have to make the difficult decision of letting it go to the big graveyard in the sky... (and you all know that would be terrible!)
