Not Overdrive Issue!!! What Next? 200 1992

Help, help, help! I finally bypassed the overdrive solenoid with IPDpart, the car performed beautifully on the highway for the 450 miles or so to Vermont and back. Today, local highway, my heart sank as those old symptoms reappeared: highway speeds, car "downshifts" while deaccelerating and/or going down "hill", slowing itself into third, then wanders back and forth trying to find a place to land gear wise. Also doing it on surface streets again around the 40mph mark. I used to be able to settle this by pressing orange arrow on (turning overdrive off), but now there IS NO OVERDRIVE to help me, since it has been bypassed. What has been previously done: Transmission fluid changed, throttle cleaned, lubed, new cable put in, overdrive relay changed, overdrive now bypassed. I went back to the mechanic, a Volvo indie shop, and he has no idea for the "what next." Is going to drive it again to "see what it is doing." I was hoping for some amazing, insightful answer before then. I have to drive this car 1300 miles next week for a big move, and I am panicking! - 1992 Volvo 240 Wagon, 123,000 orig. miles. Thanks!
