Fuel pump relay 200 1981

The fuel pump relay on my 245 gets very hot. You can hold it but just barely. Previous owner must have had problem too because I found 4 relays in a box in the back. The main fuel pump does not seem to be making a lot of noise and there's no indication that the in tank pump is not working. Before I owned it, it once got so hot that it partially melted the wiring harness that plugs into the relay. I replaced the harness and installed a new relay but its still very hot.
I'm thinking that I should test the in tank pump to see if it is supplying a good stream to the main pump. Any other ideas?
Jim
