A/C Compressor clutch not working 200 1993

My 1993 240 has original A/C compressor. Until few days ago its clutch was engaging
just fine. A/C was cold, and life was good….Now, clutch no longer engages. I can take
12v from battery to the green wire leading to the compressor, and there is NO click.
I assume the clutch is bad. What is the piece on compressor that the wire goes to?
Can it be removed and examined while on the car? Lastly, can the compressor
clutch be replaced while on car. I don’t have equipment to deal with refrigerant.
Are there any links that show compressor/clutch pictures and their relationship.
Thanks in advance.
