'74 142 saga 140-160

Well, I'm pleased that my first post here, after lurking and finding some good info, is to indicate that I finally got my 1974 142 running last night. I got it after it sat about two years and found some 'interesting' things right off the bat.

First, a previous owner had cut the wiring to the fuel pump. Second, they also pulled the coil out and it was missing, along with some related connectors. After rewiring the fuel pump and getting a coil, I started hunting down wires, based on the diagrams. At first, I couldn't find the indicated blue wire, but it was on a three-wire connector hidden under some leaves near the starter.

With that, the wiring trial and error started in earnest. As some point, I made some circuits happy and got the fuel pump to run, but it ran any time the key was one. Finally, last night, I quadruple-checked all wiring, replaced the cap, rotor and points and it fired up. The fuel pump now runs only when the starter is active and when the car is running.

Now it's running VERY roughly and spraying fuel from somewhere under the hood - enough so that it get in the fan and goes everywhere. I'll have to track that down, so I guess the real fun with K-Jet/CIS begins, but at least I know it's getting enough fuel to run and the spark is sorted.

So, I have plenty of work ahead of me to make it safe and drivable, but this was a major breakthrough, for now!
