Got to agree with the other posters.

Sarcasm from those more knowledgeable sucks when you are trying to learn.
Do try to zip-it as much as possible. You'll gain his respect in the long run if he is "reasonably intelligent".

Cut the kid some slack and let him screw up if it won't damage anything or hurt anyone.

Don't know if pushing 50 is a younger guy.
