AW71 to M46 900

Soon I will visit some junkyards and if I will spot 740 with M46 I would love to pull it and replace AW71 in my '92 940T. Yes! I have read about the swap, but I still have some questions. How heavy is the M46? Is it possible to pull it from the beneath of the junked car on a pile of tires or such, or should I remove the tranny with the engine? How can I tell if the transmission is in working condition? Shifting gears and turning engine manually? Any modifications to the ECU connections ( on turbobrics regarding swap AW71 to M90 they mentioned something but not very specific)?
Any comments on this? Please and thank you in advance.

Robert
