Speedo Intermitent failure 900 1993

I have a Volvo 1993 940 Turbo. The speedo intermitently fails , usually after driving for awhile. It zeros and stops working. After I stop it will operate again for a short time. Can anybody advise what this might be. I had a great Volvo mechanic until recently but unfortunately he passed away. I need to find another . But, I need to fix my speedometer first.
