Variable Orifice Valve and Improved MPG – Any Real Data about This? 900 1993

Summer's here and I've decided to finally educate myself about the a/c system and get mine running again! I'm planning on a complete overhaul of the whole system, and I've been reading a little about the VOV.
I've read posts about lower interior temperatures, but I'm in the Pacific Northwest, so that's not a major concern. I'm more interested in the improved gas mileage. The VOV costs about $30, which is about 10x the cost of the regular valve, but if I save money on gas, then it should pay for itself....

Does anyone have some real data about improved MPG for this valve?
