I'd go with the 8551608. I wasn't buying a cat. Just stumbled on that #. I chased it around last Fall. It was a new Volvo # as of September. My so-called notes are below, for whatever they may be worth now:

1) eEuroparts lists a "Genuine" Volvo Cat for B230F (non-EGR) under PN 8551608.
2) 8551608 is not shown in 2001 QR Parts Book, but 8551408 is listed (for non-EGR).
3) 8551608 is a NEW Volvo Part # for B230F Catalytic w/no EGR)
=> See "New Products : Volvo" September list.
4) Tasca lists BOTH numbers...
=> 8551408 $352.68 $0.00 $263.63 (original #)
=> 8551608 $295.77 $0.00 $221.09 (new/eEuro #)
5) Go to This Parts House and look up a cat for '92 240 non=egr.

6) The new 8551608 is a US-Made part by D.E.C. in Van Nuys (maybe others?)
